Kisii University students have been pent up by the Kenya Power for taking too long to restore power, following an electric fault which led to a blackout for more than 24 hours. The most affected areas include Nyamage , Bobaracho which sorrounds the university.

The electric fault is said to have been caused by heavy down pour in Kisii County. The electricity power shot was realized after an electric wire was spotted around Manoti hostel on the ground.

Students have issued an ultimatum to Kenya Power to save the situation or else they will resort to other avenues demanding their rights.

Rodgers Nyanumba , Kisii University president, has urged the energy company to salvage students because they are having exams.

“It is very unfortunate to see students walk in darkness during exam time for more than two days, we are urging Kenya Power to save the situation before it gets out of hand.” He said.

The varsity students started their exams on Monday but have expressed their displeasure with the power fault as some calling for the management to intervene.

Joseph Otieno, third year student, says that they have lost a lot due to the inconveniencies caused.

“I thought it was just a normal black out, it has really cost me a lot since my early exams have not been revised for, I could not manage to walk back to the library at wee hours.” He lamented.
