Dennis Opicho is a second year student in Maseno who sustains his stay in school by operating a mobile beauty shop at the institution.

A student of Bachelor of Arts Business Management, he has put the skills he learns in class to successful entrepreneurship where he offers services such as pedicures and manicures among others.

Ladies, the majority of his customers are pleased with his services saying he is approachable, skilled and offers quality services at a lower cost in comparison to other.

“He is more reliable since I can always call him when I need his services. It is more convenient for I don’t have to walk all the way to the salons. I even feel much at ease with Opicho more than when I am at the salon. His services are also much cheaper,” says Anne Jemutai, a customer of Opicho.

On how he acquired his skills, Opicho says: “I learned the skills from my dad who runs a salon at home. He is very skilled and through helping him, I gained the skills and experience. The money helps me sustain my stay in school and also chip in in my fees payment.”

He adds that depending on his parents is challenging since his other siblings are still in school.

Opicho adds that it is not all a fun ride, “I face a number of challenges balancing this job and my studies. I also don’t have a central place where I can run the business which makes contact with my clients hard.”

He says he hopes to open a salon within Maseno Market early next year.
