Students from Marsabit Boys High School led by their Deputy Principal Mr. Jilo on Monday met Mombasa Deputy Governor Dr William Kingi.
The boys were wounding up on an education trip in the County and paid a courtesy call at the Governor’s Office purposefully for mentorship.
Kingi said it is the role of every citizen to accentuate on children the importance of education as an essential instrument of empowerment.
"We need to prepare our students to be confident leaders and achievers through mentorship programmes to sharpen their communication skills and improve their levels of self-awareness of their strengths and weaknesses," he said.
"Through this self awareness our students shall then be able to independently define their interests and nurture a personal drive to achieve within those interests."
The DG revealed that the county Department of Education, in harnessing mentorship would also be seeking partnerships with mentors to roll out mentorship programmes in local schools with.
He said this would enable students to pick cues from the successes of the mentors and consequently acquire autonomy, and critical thinking skills that would be critical in moulding them into responsible adults and leaders.
