Students at Kirobon Girls High School in Rongai, Nakuru County are counting losses after their property was reduced to ashes in a dormitory fire on Tuesday.
The 4pm fire whose cause was not immediately established, consumed the entire dormitory that houses Form Four students. Nothing was salvaged in the incident.
Eye witnesses said they noticed smoke billowing from one of the windows and immediately embarked on a rescue operation after switching off the power.
“I was in class teaching when the students told me they could see smoke through the windows. I rushed to switch off the electricity at the main switch” said teacher Danson Ngige.
"Probably it was due to electric fault," he added.
Nakuru County government fire fighting engine arrived at the scene late, and only managed to put out the small flames that were still there.
No one was injured during the incident as all the students were in classrooms for studies.
About 100 form four students were in the school for holiday tuition at the time of the incident against the Ministry of Education's directive that banned tuition.
