The students dismissed the move by an investor to establish the bar inside the hostel housing over 100 pupils arguing that it was not appropriate to be established.

They swore never to allow the bar to operate citing that it would make their stay in the hostel a problem.

“The bar produces a lot of noise such that reading inside the hostel or sleeping is now a problem,” noted Janny Moody a student residing at the hostel.

The landlord of the house stood in solidarity with the students adding that he was not in support of the idea and had filed a case with Kisumu Law Courts on closure of the bar.

He noted that the room belonged to someone else through a partnership and he was not in a position to close it.

“I have filed a case with the Kisumu Law Courts and they had been ordered to close the business but I understand they are back operating the business. The two (hostel and bar) cannot co-exist,”said Silas Ochieng.

The bar had been closed following a court order last year but the business is now running something that has annoyed the students.

The Prestigious hostel houses a number of students from different universities with a majority being from Maseno University.

They lamented that the bar promoted the culture of alcoholism among the students something they really decry.

The students warned that they would conduct a raid and bring down the business.

“We give him until next week to bring down the bar or at least erect another business in the area or we shall evict him ourselves,” James Kimwana stated.
