University and college students from North Mugirango constituency yesterday held a protest at Itibo ward claiming that they have not received any help from the constituency’s bursary kitty. The students claimed that they had made several applications for the fund but had received nothing so far despite many of them being orphans. “We have been applying for bursaries from our Constituency Development Fund for long but we have never seen the money and we are wondering where the money goes to and what does it do,” said one of the protesting students, who declined to be named. The students, who marched to the North Mugirango CDF offices in Ekerenyo town where they camped for some time, said they are having difficulties paying their school fees and demanded that they be given the names of the beneficiaries of the fund in the current financial year. Addressing them on the issue, the Nyamira North District commissioner Thomas Saka asked the students to calm down. “I want you to calm down. Go take the application forms, fill them and leave them at the CDF offices and your applications shall be considered in the next financial year,” he said.
