Alim High School students in Machakos County on Sunday protested over poor diet being offered at the institution and lack of teachers for some subjects.
According to the students, since two teachers were transferred from the school they are not being taught some of the subjects the teachers who were transferred used to teach them.
“We are being offered poor diet in the school. Food is not prepared well and cooks are rude to us when we question them why the food is badly prepared. We are not pigs to be given dirty food to eat,” said one of the students identified as Steve Mutua.
Mutua said the school Principal Ali Teuzi has not taken any step despite them raising complains to him.
“The principal has not addressed our grievances because we have raised complains since January. We will not allow anyone to mistreat us because our parents have paid fees for us to get good meals. Our health also matters a lot,” added Mutua.
However, the school Principal Ali Teuzi defended himself saying the matter was being addressed.
"Yes it is true the students have raised complains to my office but the matter is being reviewed and we will give details on the matter on a later day,” he said.
He said he is not aware if the cooks have been rude to the students but assured that the claims will be investigated.
