Students from a private school in Machakos Town Constituency on Thursday walked for seven kilometers to the county education offices in search of justice.
Sun Rise Secondary School situated along Machakos Nairobi highway saw the students in form four walk out in protest over poor learning conditions.
“As a girls’ school, we are so much exposed to danger. The school lacks a fence, we fetch water from the river which is far from the school. Considering the Moi girls’ incident, we see our lives so much exposed with people crisscrossing the compound at any time,” said one of the girls.
The students called upon the Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed to intervene before the worst befall the school.
The girls said they had tried reaching the school's director Michael Mutuku on several occasions since they were admitted in form one in vain.
“we have never had any practical lessons since the lab is just a building lacking facilities and we wonder how we shall sit the KCSE,”.
On reaching the ministry’s offices at 4.00pm and tirelessly waited for an address from the officers their dream did not bear any fruits only to be left outside relaxing after the long trek.
The girls were seen stranded in Machakos town on Thursday evening at around 6.00 pm.
They walked back to school after their efforts to be addressed by officials from the county's education department bore no fruits.
When contacted on phone by this writer, Mutuku said the girls' complaints were not genuine.
