According to one of the students, Victor Madinga, a third year, he expressed his joy following the move saying that it has relieved many students who were unable to pay for rental and private hostels.

“I am so happy about the move since it has saved many students who were unable to pay for rental and private hostels,” said Madinga.

He further added that many continuing students during first semester suffered at the hands of merciless rental and private hostel owners who took advantage of the situation and charged them heavily.

“Majority of us suffered during the first semester suffered under the hands of merciless rental and hostel owners who taken the advantage of the situation and charged us heavily” he said.

The direction was put into effect last year in September where only first years were allowed to stay within main campus, a move that was seen as biased by continuing students.

Confirming the move, head of halls department at the university, Walter Mong’are, said that the decision was reached at to capture all students.

“I am happy to confirm that rooms are now free for application by all students on first come first served basis,” said Mong’are.

The decision was made amid complaints from continuing students who had been told initially to look for rooms elsewhere since main campus hostels had been reserved for first years.
