2015 KCSE students set to join universities in September this year have shunned Garissa University College placement slots.
This has dealt a great blow to the government's efforts to revive the institution just a year after a deadly terror attack.
Out of the 710 declared student capacity at the Garissa University, which is an affiliate college of Moi University, only 23 students have so far selected to join the institution.
According to statistics from the Kenyan Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) 687 slots are yet to be fulfilled.
Last year, the college never admitted any student following the April 2015 attacks that claimed more than 140 souls.
Bachelor of Education Arts programme has the highest tally of unfilled slots that stands at 149, closely followed by Bachelor of Education Science with 95 positions among other courses.
KUCCPS has already announced the second and final revision exercise ahead of the September admission dates.
The notice comes at a time when more than 19,209 eligible candidates failed to secure their first choice selections of degree courses they had applied to pursue.
