Pupils have used the Nairobi County music festivals as a platform to highlight the violence and injustices that children face while at home and in school.
In several choral verses that featured in the 'No Violence to Children' collection, pupils openly laid bare the many forms of mistreatment that children encounter in the hands of their parents, teachers, relatives, house helps and even strangers.
The incidents of teachers abusing the trust bestowed on them by guardians and society were highlighted.
Nairobi Primary School recited a verse about a teacher who raped his pupils and threatens with dire consequences if they ever revealed the acts. Kibera Primary School performed a verse entitled 'The Monster'. Interestingly, the verse also touched on the issue of tutors openly molesting and beating school children under their watch. Westlands Primary School had a tragicomic verse surrounding on a teacher who takes sex education too far to the extent of "Going Practical."
AIC Zion Primary performed 'My Class, My Slap', a tragic verse of a paedophile lurking in the school's neighbourhood, making kids fear even getting out of class to play in the fields during break time.
