The school has now been shut down after the students became unruly during the strike and moved out of the school compound.

West Pokot County Director of Education Jared Obiero said he held a meeting with education stakeholders, the principal of the school and students on Saturday daytime after receiving intelligence report that the students had planned for the strike.

He said the students had complained about the new principal as they demanded him to declare his stand and support them in exam cheating.

"We talked to the students telling them what they are demanding cannot be tolerated anywhere. But still, they didn't hear us. The principal is new, three weeks old and they kept asking the principal what's his stand concerning the KCSE exam if he supports them in exam malpractices," Obiero told journalists.

He said the principal had told the students they must work hard and can't tolerate or encourage exam cheating.

"The principal teaches form three physics.  He told them the best he can do is to supervise teachers to teach them and make sure all of them attend classes," he added.

Two weeks ago the form four class that had repeated after Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) had canceled their 2017 KCSE results also went on strike and the school management decided to release them to go home.

The school’s principal Tiony Simon insisted that he doesn't support exam malpractices and he had informed the students his stand but they were against it.

"They claim they want to be assisted to pass exams through cheating but I dismissed them and told them teachers will prepare them for exams,” he said.
