Chaos arose in Thika town yesterday when aggrieved students from Kabage secondary school within Murang’a County confronted a Matatu tout who allegedly tried to defraud one of them.
According to the student, the conductor had refused to give back change to the students who had boarded his Matatu from school to Thika when they were breaking for midterm. The touts came in solidarity to rescue their colleague but the studnets stood their ground.
Both parties paralysed business in the lower side of the town as the students were driven off by the touts in collaboration with the police officers manning the banks nearby.
The students later shifted their attention to journalists asking them to erase the footage of the whole incident claiming it would ruin their lives. The journalists were however able to evade the students with the help of the policemen.
The students later engaged the police in running battles in the better part of the morning before the situation was contained.
