Kisii County students have been urged to choose careers wisely, so that they are not jobless by the time they finish their schooling.
According to Suneka Sub-county Education Officer Simba Omache, students from the area have the tendency of choosing careers that have less demand in the job market, rendering them to being jobless over long periods of time.
He advised students to more so take science subjects seriously, to enable them train and fill up the gaps in the region’s health sector, which has got a high demand in times like now.
He thus called on the education stakeholders to encourage students from the area to study science subjects in an effort to address the problem.
Addressing students at Suneka High school, Simba said that the residents had given science subjects a wide berth, leaving science oriented job opportunities to be taken up by outsiders.
He said currently in the County, there are more vacancies to be filled by eligible nursing candidates from the county, but so far there are none who qualifies for the same.
He lamented over the high shortage of the health personnel in the health centers and dispensaries that were constructed in the ward recently by the county government, saying outsiders were not keen on staying at the remote ward.
