Amabuko Secondary School Principal Ondieki Mokua has warned students against having a negative attitude towards mathematics.
The school head has reminded the students that the subject was core to those aspiring for careers in medicine and engineering.
Mokua regretted that majority of the students had unfounded fear for mathematics based on rumours that the subject was difficult noting that maths is the easiest subject of all the subjects examined by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).
Speaking to HiviSasa.com in his school, Mokua attributed his school's improved performance in KCSE national examinations to good performance in mathematics among his students sitting for the national examinations.
"Poor performance in mathematics among candidates sitting for KCSE national examinations leads to many students being locked out of competitive careers in medicine and science related fields," stated Mokua.
He however indicated that his school narrowly missed a mean score of 10.00 which was the target for last year's KCSE candidates from the school and scored a mean of 9.00 up from 2013's 7.332 with 146 out of 149 candidates scoring above a C Plus and two scoring plain As.
"Since I joined this school in 2003 last year's candidates have made me proud as they posted an impressive performance in KCSE results, though they narrowly missed our target mean score of 10.00,” he said.
Mokua disclosed that the school was one of the best KCSE national examinations performers in Masaba South sub-county and has been taking a good number of students to both private and public universities.
