The Eldoret National Polytechnic students have urged Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) to increase the amount allocated to the institution.

Students Union Chairman Dominic Kiptanui Korir said the current amount is a drop in the ocean."We usually receive sh 15,000,000 annual which only benefits 500 out of 8,000 students each getting sh 30,000," he said in Eldoret town, Thursday. "We want the funds increased since most students come from poor background thus cannot afford their fees and if nothing is done they might drop out of school," he added. He, however, urged HELB  to be channeling the funds into students account rather than the polytechnics account."This will help us pay for food accommodation and transport. The funds should also be channeled on time since it takes over 5 months for one to benefit," noted  Korir. He called upon Uasin Gishu County government to put up security lights at the school's premises because students are always attacked by thugs.Korir called upon students not to be used by politicians to cause violence before, during and after elections.
