Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama has warned students against engaging in examination malpractices which leads to cancellation of their results.
Speaking at Sironga High School on Thursday, Nyagarama said students had a bigger role to play in curbing the vice, further challenging the students to practice honesty by facing the national examinations with the integrity it deserves.
“I am worried that our county still faces incidents of examination malpractices. Time has come for students to play their role by practicing honesty and integrity,” Nyagarama said.
“National examinations determine one's future. They must be handled with highest level integrity and that is what we want to see. As county government, we do not want to hear cancellation of results in our county anymore,” Nyagarama added.
He said a number of those who managed to survive examination cancellation struggled to excel in institutions of higher learning hence leading to their subsequent termination of their studies.
“Do not just look at the cancellation of results. I am aware that some of those who escape normally face difficulties at the institutions of higher learning. Eventually, they will have their studies terminated because of incompetence. It’s a challenge to you students to take personal responsibilities by avoiding examination malpractices for your own good,” he said.
Omonayo Secondary school from Nyamira County was the prime causality in 2015 Kenya Certificate for Secondary School Education after 66 candidates had their results cancelled on grounds of malpractices.
