A new assessment conducted on the state learning in schools has revealed that there is increased enrolled but low learning outcomes.

The study conducted by Twaweza East Africa showed that the learning outcomes were affected by variations such as gender, location, and wealth.

The study dubbed The sixth Learning Assesment Report was released on 15/12/2016 at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development in the presence of different education stakeholders.

"These Uwezo results present sobering insights as we begin our journey towards Sustainable Development Goals," said Dr. John Mugo, Director of Data and Voice at Twaweza.

Mugo added that as the country plans to reform the curriculum must give priority to areas not addressed in the current curriculum.

"Education is the backbone of a developed society. Moving forward, we have an opportunity in the ongoing curriculum and education reform in Kenya," added Mugo.

The Uwezo learning assessment is conducted in Kenya,Tanzania and Uganda where children aged 6 to 16 are assessed in basic literacy and numeracy using a test based on class 2 curriculum.
