Balambala MP elect Abdi Omar Shurie has criticized his colleagues who are agitating for higher pay saying they are a disgrace to the Kenyan people and constitution.

The MP elect says that his colleagues who have raised reservations on the pay cut are not being realistic.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday, the Jubilee MP said that money should not be the major factor for leadership.

He accused some of his colleagues of being led by selfish interests. “I am disappointed at some of my colleagues claiming that the pay allocated to us (MPs) by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) RC is not sufficient,” he said as quoted by the People Daily.

The Jubilee MP elect said that the interest of the people should be first and not material things and money.

He called on colleagues to forget about more money and play their legislative roles effectively once they are sworn into office.

Shurie  said that Kenyans are yearning for good laws and that MP elects should not waste time discussing unnecessary things.

A section of MPs have raised reservations with the salaries and allowances allocated to them by the SRC.

The MP elects says that the money allocated to them is not sufficient and have vowed to fight for a higher pay.

Homabay Woman Representative elect Gladys Wanga is among MPs who have vowed to reject the SRC allocation.

The MPs new demand has been condemned by Kenyans who accuse the (MPs) of having appetite for more money yet they have not been sworn in to office.

On Thursday, President Uhuru Kenyatta vowed not to sign any Bill that will see MPs earn more than what has been allocated to them by SRC.

The MP elects are expected to be sworn into office on Thursday next week.
