Titus Omanyi who is the Kisumu County Director of Administration said the rate at which alcohol dens were increasing in the area was alarming and that there is need to put tough laws in place to ensure that the trend is tamed.

According to the director, the sub-county administrators in their respective sub-counties should take the responsibility to ensure that there respective areas of jurisdiction are free from the menace of illicit brew consumption which he says is dragging the county back as it aims to achieve full development courtesy of devolution.

"As we aim to take this great county to the next level, there is need to ensure that drug abuse is fought," he said.

"This can only be achieved if our sub-county administrators use the resources at their disposal to help tackle the issue of illicit brews which is a fast rising problem here. My office is very supportive and am willing to work with them to ensure that the county is drug-free," said Mr Omanyi on Monday.

"Many slum areas in the city are becoming notorious area for this type of business. This is completely derailing the county government's effort to better the living standards there," he added.
