Subukia police boss Alex Ng’ang’a has directed chiefs to hunt down and apprehend illicit brewers who could have resorted back to brewing and selling of illicit alcohol.

Speaking to journalists in Subukia Town on Wednesday, Ng’ang’a asked chiefs to make sure that their localities are free of illicit brews.

The Police boss said chiefs are the people on the ground and must fight illicit brews.

Ng’ang’a said the recent crackdown on illicit brews and second generation drinks has bore fruits.

“We have seen cases of drinking reduce significantly since the crackdown on illegal alcohol three weeks ago. Police and other local administrators will keep monitoring the situation," said Ng’ang’a.

He said that illicit brewing was rampant in the area and had trapped young men and urged residents who were engaging in illicit brews to look for alternative legal business.

He said that brewing and sale of illegal alcohol will not be tolerated in the area.

The Subukia police boss also asked area youths to join their leaders in development and forget about drinking.

On Sunday, police in Subukia recovered 200 cartons of chemicals used to make illicit brews hidden in a maize plantation.

The search for the owners of the consignment is ongoing.
