The deputy county commissioner said these businesses are robbing young people and corrupting the society as children are missing school to go and bet.

“We have received information that some of these children are stealing money from their parents and then bet either on pool games or the betting machines. My office won’t allow this and I have ordered chiefs to ensure those operating the business have a license,” Njoroge said.

He said that for those operating betting machines should be licensed by the betting and licensing control board.

“Pool businesses must also be licensed by county government and the betting and licensing board. Those are operating illegally will be arrested and taken to court,” he added.

The deputy commissioner was speaking on Thursday in Subukia during a baraza.

He said cases of insecurity have drastically dropped after key suspects were arrested and arraigned in Nyahururu court and urged residents to cooperate with security officers in giving information in order to root out crime in Subukia.

He added that the government has embarked on a project of increasing enrollment of children in both primary and secondary schools in the area by building 18 additional classes.

“This will ensure children get access to good and quality education. I urge every parent to take his or her children to school especially that primary education is provided free by the government,” he said.
