Police are investigating an incident where a mother of four committed suicide by throwing herself in a well in Gituamba village Subukia Nakuru county early Monday.
The deceased identified as Christine Gathoni Kiragu said to be in her 40s jumped into the well within her home compound shortly after 5.00am.
According to Subukia central Chief Francis Kibe, the deceased was known as a humble person and no reports of domestic quarrel had been reported.
“The deceased was a very humble person and we are surprised since there were no any reports of domestic quarrel. His husband Mr. Anthony Kiragu who works at Subukia catholic church had just left home for early morning mass when the incident occurred. And on hearing the sad news he fainted and was rushed to Faith Health Centre in Subukia Town.
Chief Kibe added that they were yet to establish what could have led to the woman committing suicide since no suicide note was found in the house after a search.
Neighbors with the help of police managed to retrieve the woman’s body from the 45 feet deep well using ropes.
Subukia MP Nelson Gaichuhie who was among those who visited the scene termed the incident as unfortunate.
“This is so unfortunate for this family which I have known for long.There has never been domestic quarrels but we hope the reason behind this will be known soon” said Gaichuie.
The body was taken to Nakuru War Memorial Hospital mortuary.
