Youth in Subukia and Nakuru East constituencies have been urged to venture into small-scale businesses that will help them become fully independent.
Speaking in Subukia on Tuesday while distributing merchandise from the Coca-Cola Company that will see young people start kiosks, Nakuru East MP David Gikaria applauded the move saying that it will prove a milestone in providing a solution to the unemployment problem.
"As leaders, we thank the Coca-Cola Company and all parties involved for their gesture and continuous support in ensuring our youth gets something to earn a living from," he said adding that such collaborations will in the long-run ensure that the county becomes an economic hub in the region.
Ken Indangasi, the company's county project co-ordinator said the project would help meet set sales targets while providing employment to several youth in the two constituencies.
"The coke 5by20 product initiative is a youth driven project where young people are allowed to exercise their business prowess with our support and technical guidance. Nakuru County has been a good consumer base for our products that is why we decided to involve local youth in the programme," he said.
Among products being distributed are fridges, plastic chairs and tables, plastic watersheds and roadside kiosks.
Gikaria called on the beneficiaries to maintain the equipment saying that ignorance and lack of commitment would lead to vandalism and failure.
"It is my prayer that everyone from the select areas benefits from the project. It is your responsibility to safeguard the facility to yield maximum profits," he advised.
On Wednesday, the merchandise was slated for distribution in Njoro and Nakuru West constituencies will all sub-counties of Nakuru set to benefit.
