The IDPs say that the government has shown little concern to their suffering and urged it to take serious commitment towards their resettlement.

Speaking today at the IDP's camp at Wiyumiririe Location, Subukia Sub County, the IDP's spokesman Michael Macharia expressed grave concern at the 'unparalleled' suffering they are undergoing.

“We are living in torn tents and we have not received any replacements since 2007,” said Macharia.

Macharia noted that the most affected are elderly and children.

“During this rainy season, the elderly and children have borne the brunt of suffering. Some have contracted pneumonia and other related illness,” added Macharia.

He also said that the camp lacks basic amenities especially health facilities, a situation which he said might lead to a health crisis.

“We have not a single dispensary and the IDPs trek for long distances to seek medical attention,” said Macharia.

Macharia however thanked the government for setting aside over 10 billion for resettlement of IDPs and integrated IDPs and urged the concerned ministry to hasten the resettlement programmes.
