A teacher at Subukia primary school is on the spot after he allegedly beat a class 8 pupil to death.
The incident took place after the pupil failed a Social Studies paper.
The deceased, 14-year-old David Ndung'u, was reportedly beaten on October 3 and fell sick according to her mum, Elizabeth Nyokabi.
"My son said he was feeling sick when he came back home that day. He later told me a teacher had beaten him severely for failing to score the minimum marks he had set for the class. He said the teacher caned him everywhere, including on the head," the distraught parent told The Standard.
Nyokabi said her son’s situation, however, worsened.
On Friday, she took him to hospital and was referred to Nyahururu hospital.
"By the time he was being admitted, my son was very weak. He could not walk on his own and I had to support him. Around 9pm on Saturday, I received a call from a doctor telling me that Ndung'u had died,” the mother said.
Parents and pupils of the school held demonstrations as it emerged that Ndung’u was the second pupil to die out of beatings in the school.
Efforts to talk to the schools administration were futile.
Area police boss said investigations are in top gear.
