“We do not know what is happening but we have not got electricity," said Sarah Njoroge, a resident.

"We have been trying to contact the Kenya Power offices [but it] has not been fruitful.”

She claimed that power went off on Monday morning and normal supply has not resumed.

The irate residents are now threatening to hold demonstrations in protests. According to the residents, the lack of power was a security threat in the area as many criminals take advantage of the pitch dark.

“There has been cases of mugging and stealing and we are afraid that this might escalate if normal supply is not resumed,” said Clement Maina, another resident.

The businessmen in the area now claim that they are undergoing huge losses.

“It’s unfair. All our businesses have come to a standstill as many require electricity to operate. We have not heard any feedback from them and hence we are not sure what is going on,” said Joseph Mureithi.

Margaret Nyawira said that it became hard for children to concentrate in their studies.

“Many have shunned reading as they cannot be able to concentrate in the dark. The tin lamps they are using are also not efficient hence they’ve opted to avoid books,” she said.

Attempts to reach Kenya Power for a comment were unfutile as the phone went unanswered.
