Poverty can be alleviated through organised groups within the society,  according to Nakuru County First Lady Lucia Mbugua.

Speaking to over 30 women groups from Subukia constituency on Wednesday, Mbugua stated women have a huge role to play in developing the community through poverty eradication programmes.

“Women empowerment is very important and the most effective way to empower women is through the groups which have a vision to change the lives of its members and non-members as well,” said Mbugua.

She educated the women on how to make to make the groups vibrant and structures that will ensure they last longer.

The First Lady told the women that they have to see beyond the present day and strategise on things that are worthwhile such as long term investments which are viable and guarantee profits.

“In any plan you make, you have to scrutinize its viability in the long term and also check on its merits to you as members of the group. If it sounds good, go ahead and if it does not, go back to the drawing board and come up with another plan,” said she.

The groups were advised to tap on the recently released monies for county women reps and use for investments in their respective projects.

Mbugua also said the county government will support them in their endeavour to better lives through groups.
