City politics have taken a rough course after participants started tracing the roots of power brokers in the city and DP William Ruto has been hit hard.
National Super Alliance (NASA) captain Raila Odinga has dismissed the influence of DP Ruto in the city politics. Speaking in Kibera, Odinga downplayed the impact of his former ally in ousting ODM’s Evans Kidero.
“Ruto is coming from Sugoit and knows nothing about Nairobi politics. Jogoo la shamba haiwezi wika mjini,” Odinga said as quoted by Nation.
The war of words between the two political heavyweights comes after the DP endorsed Senator Mike Sonko for the city top post. It is also reported that State House had a hand in forcing Sonko to pick Vivo Managing Director Polycarp Igathe as his running mate.
This choice of Sonko’s deputy has attracted criticism and praise in equal measure. Some believe it is a plus while others do not see the impact of deputy governors for the past four years.
Meanwhile, the opposition chief also took a swipe at the government for manipulating food prices for political gain. He said that they are aware of the cunning methods applied in creating the prevailing food situation.
“They think that they are very clever but they do not know that we have found them out,” Raila said.
