President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday rewarded former Mombasa gubernatorial candidate, Suleiman Shahbal, after unsuccessfully vying through the Jubilee Party ticket.
Shahbal who widely campaigned for Kenyatta's second-term bid in the larger coastal region ahead of the August 8th, 2017 general elections, was appointed as the chairman to the Kenya Trade Network Agency (Kenya TradeNet System).
The agency is an initiative of the Kenya Vision 2030 aimed to facilitate trade, customs clearance, competitiveness and to reduce the cost of trade thus promoting the economy.
The system aims to provide the trading community and all stakeholders a single access point for all external trade-related services and to meet the legal requirement of the trade.
The key stakeholders of the KNESWS are Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Kenya Port Authority (KPA) and Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) among others.
Uhuru made the appointment in a gazette notice before leaving for a G7 meeting in Canada on Wednesday evening.
Shahbal who was Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho's closest rival also unsuccessfully vied in 2013.
