The renovation of the long waited Suneka Airstrip has kicked off .
CEC of the Roads Kisii County Public Works and Transport, Honourable Skitta Ocharo said that the process is going smoothly and is expected to gain momentum as time goes by.
The Minister said the County Government will improve the road leading to the airstrip, he added that the second phase would entail the expansion of the airstrip to cater for commercial airplanes.
“We are really improving on the infrastructure in the county and all we want is the local leadership to sensitize the community on the importance of the airstrip so that we can develop together as a county,” said Skitta
The first phase of the renovation will involve the construction of a parameter wall, parking , an administration block and a passenger lounge. Upon completion of this phase, the airstrip is expected to boost tourism and business not only within Kisii County but also in the neighbouring counties.
The first phase will cost Shs52 million and will be completed in the next 9 months. The county is committed to improving infrastructure, and the renovation is the first project to kick off this initiative.
