The residents of Suneka Sub County in Kisii have been given a stake of the available jobs in the renovation of the Suneka Airstrip.
Residents had feared that the open job slots were being given to labourers out of the county in a situation where the residents were capable of filling these slots.
According to the project Contactor Vinbel Ail they have given the jobs to those people they see have skills and the capability to carry them out. Ail said they need to sort things out as soon as possible since they are working within tight time constraints.
“We would not hire people from far when the surrounding community can do the work, therefore we have given them the opportunity to carry out the work as had been agreed with the county government and local leaders,” said Ail.
The renovations on the airstrip is being undertaken by the National Government’s collaboration with the the county government.
The initial phase of the rehabilitation will cost Sh52 million which will include construction of a passenger lounge with the capacity to hold up to 200 passengers, the construction of toilets, a car park, a chain link fence and minor repairs and marking of the runway.
