Residents of Bokeiri village in Suneka, Bonchari Sub-county, have petitioned the government to communicate to them compensation of the people to be evacuated from Suneka airstrip ahead of its expansion.
The residents led by businessman Abel Ongwacho who is also set to lose his two acres of land to the airstrip said they want clear outlines on their compensation before they leave the place.
"More than 50 families own pieces of land and live near the airstrip and therefore, we want to be given clear guidelines on when we are going to be paid so that we can plan for ourselves," he said.
Bobasi Central ward rep Henry Moracha who also has a share of land near the airstrip expressed his disappointment, and asked Governor James Ongwae and Bonchari MP Zebedee Opore to intervene into the matter.
"The government must be ready to compensate the residents," Moracha said, condemning a section of the media for misleading the public that those affected have been compensated.
