Suneka sub-county Health Medical Officer Dr Francis Mosiria, said the misuse of nets amounted to sabotage of campaigns against malaria and called on the administrators to take legal action against those using the nets to fence their homesteads and cover trees and vegetable seedlings.

Speaking on Friday during a sensitisation workshop for chiefs, assistant chiefs and ward administrators on the free distribution of mosquito nets to families, Dr Francis said the government was committed to reducing deaths and sickness caused by malaria in the county through provision of free nets and treatment.

He said the nets procured by the government in partnership with development partners meant to prevent and control malaria and enable the government utilise resource saved to combat cancer, diabetes and hypertension.

“The government uses a lot of money to make sure all families are free from malaria and therefore nets should be put into proper use not to rear chickens, said Mosiria.

He said those who will be caught using nets for wrong purposes will be simply arrested, arraigned in court and charged for the same.
