Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama has maintained that his government would not tire until the Commission for University Education and the Ministry of Education approves the construction of the first public university in the county.
Last year, Nyagarama signed a memorandum of understanding with the University of Eldoret Vice Chancellor Teresa Akenga on the construction of the university to boost education in the region.
Nyagarama confirmed Monday that top officials from the Education ministry led by CS Fred Matiang’i would visit the proposed site at Kiabonyoru and give an assessment for the construction of the State University of Nyamira (SUNY).
“The most important development that I will help the people of Nyamira to achieve would be the construction of the first public university. That is my dream and I am optimistic that before elections, we would have started the project,” he said when he addressed youths from various parts of the county at his residence.
“The Cabinet Secretary for Education and a team of professions will visit the site early September and I am sure that the project will kick off soon,” said the county boss during his one-hour speech.
According to him, the institution would help the region grow economically given the vast investment opportunities that it would create to surrounding environment.
“There is no doubt that the university will be a good investment. The economy of the county will grow and local investors will get an opportunity to invest in real estate and housing. Small businesses will also be boosted,” he said.
