Garissa Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) Secretary General Abdullahi Salat has urged politicians across the divide to exercise tolerance and preach peace as the country approaches the August 8 polls.

Addressing the media at Garissa Town on Monday,  Salat cautioned politicians against making  inflammatory statements.

The Muslim leader noted that the country is experiencing high political temperatures and that any ‘careless’ talk by rogue politicians will threaten peace.

Salat urged politicians to exercise tolerance despite their different political ideologies.

“Politicians whether in government or opposition must tone down and be on the front line in preaching for peace as we head to the August 8 polls,” he said.

The Garissa SUPKEM Secretary General stated that the country’s unity and peace will be and guaranteed if the politicians shelve their selfish interests and work together.

He appealed to Kenyans not to be swayed or influenced into violence.

Salat also urged religious leaders across the board to take front lead in agitating for peaceful August polls.

“Religious leader’s whether Christians, Hindus, Muslims or any other must devote and pray for the country’s unity,” he added.

Salat at the same time urged government top security agencies to beef up security across the country and guarantee Kenyans security before, during and after the August 8 polls,” he added.
