Garissa SUPKEM Secretary General Abdullahi Salat has pealed with poll losers in next week’s general election to concede defeat.
Salat also wants the losers to seek court redress in case they are dissatisfied with poll results.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, Salat said that political aspirants have a duty to accept the outcome of the election if it is free and fair.
He said that threats by some politicians that they won accept election results is against the democratic principles.
He said that the country’s democratic space has expanded and that election is no longer a matter of life and death.
“My request is to politicians seeking seats from the MCA to the presidential seat to accept the choices Kenyans will make on Tuesday net week,” he said as quoted by the Standard.
The SUPKEM official further urged two main presidential aspirants Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga to address the nation in efforts to quall rising political temperatures and anxiety before the August 8 polls.
He said that Uhuru and Raila must encourage and urge their supporters and Kenyans at large to maintain peace before, during and after the August 8 polls.
Salat further appealed to aspirants to preach unite in their last minute campaigns.
Kenyans will vote on Tuesday next week with political campaigns set to end on Saturday 6 pm. The IEBC says it’s ready for the election and guarantee free and credible polls.
