Speaking yesterday in his constituency in Kiambu County, Koinange accused Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) of failing to monitor the activities of the council.

In addition, he blamed the council for inculcating questionable moral values and having a stake in radicalization of the youths which is directly linked with the jihad.

The legislator, who equated SUPKEM to Kikuyu council of Elders, affirmed that the latter took stern and haste action in curbing incidences that were linked to Mungiki, an outlawed sect connected to the central region of Kenya.

He therefore criticized the council of Muslims for failing to govern the activities taking place within the confines of Muslim teachings which have led to immense security lapse.

This comes barely two days after SUPKEM reached a decision on Tuesday to form a body to monitor Islamic institutions in fight against radicalism.

Koinange, who showed great disapproval and criticized those who have a hand in the apparent upsurge in criminal and terror activities, urged the leaders to be on the frontline to fight the trend.

Meanwhile, the MP has welcomed US President Barrack Obama’s visit to Kenya for the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) which will take place in Nairobi in July.

However, he urged the leaders to make necessary plans with the US government to have direct flights from US to Kenya in order to boost trade and promote good relations between the United States and Kenya.
