Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has blamed suppliers for the delay in paying county workers' salaries after a court ordered City Hall to settle the debt.
Sonko said the creditors have been using the courts to frustrate cash flow from the treasury to pay the county employees on time.
"I regret the delay in paying salaries to the county workers. I wish to bring it to the workers' attention that it is not our fault but it is because the treasury which should give money to counties for workers to get salaries has delayed to release the funds," said the vocal governor.
He said county workers should go on with work as the issue will be addressed.
"I urge the staff to go on with work as the issue of salaries is being looked into. We will do everything possible to solve the issue for the employees to get paid on time", he noted.
Sonko assured that his administration will streamline county services to benefit Nairobians, saying this can only be achieved by a hard working team on board.
