The residents say that their taps have been dry for the last 10 months, and that they supply they used to get is no longer available.

The locals now want the Kiambu government to intervene and have them supplied with clean water.

Geoffrey Kamau, a resident, who talked to this writer on Thursday, said that they used to get supply from the Nairobi Water Service company before devolution and establishment of counties.

He said lack of clean water has put many residents at risk of contracting cholera and other water related diseases.

“What we want is for the Kiambu government to intervene and see how we can access clean water,” said Kamau.

Kamau added that most residents have been forced to buy water from vendors, who have taken the advantage to hike the commodity.

“We are now at the mercies of water vendors who are selling the commodity at higher prices,” said the resident.

A spot check done found that a 20 litre jerican of water goes at Sh80, from the earlier price of Sh30.

“We are now being forced to budget for water, Kiambu governor should help us access water easily,” said Emily Muthoni, another resident.
