Internally displaced persons living with HIV have appealed to the government to supply them with nutritious foods citing that the medicine they are taking was affecting them. The IDPS said that they were often overwhelmed by the medicine as they did not have any food to eat. Speaking to the press in Pipeline IDP camp, they cited that they needed maize flour, beans and porridge flour as they were the most nutritious. “We do not have any food and the intake of ARVS is high. We are afraid that because we do not have any food to eat, the disease might overwhelm us,” said Josephine Njeri, who is living positively She cited that majority of the IDPS did not have any food to eat due to the persistent failure of the rains in the area. “Our health condition makes it worse especially since we cannot afford to do heavy duties,” she added. John Njoroge, who is also living positively, cited that the government should also consider waiving all costs related to HIV related complications. “We are asking the government to ensure that people living with HIV do not die quickly as they cannot afford treatment,” he said. National IDP chairman Peter Kariuki called on the government to increase the ARVS issued to the camps. “There are many people here who need them but they do not get any help,” he added.
