Kisumu County government has been accused of not using devolution to improve development.
Kisumu residents’ spokesperson Audi Ogada, speaking on Tuesday at Kisumu Hotel accused the county government of not using her resources effectively to promote devolution and development to the locals.
According to Ogada, devolution needs to be effective as most of the locals were still suffering from various social problems like unemployment, poor health, insecurity amongst others.
He noted that proper devolution enhancement needed to be in place, to help locals get proper services in the locality.
He further challenged the leaders to make sure devolution is enhanced, stating that through devolution, poor state of living would be curbed as many of the unemployed locals would have acquired employment.
“Let us promote devolution among us, in our locality by making sure we use the available resources, by using the available resources, there would be effectiveness in the society,” he added.
Gender rural sociologist Florence Atera also challenged locals to be friendly to the leaders, and support them as they strive to deliver on their promises.
She noted that some leaders were devolution unfriendly, asking locals to support such leaders in their projects.
“By us helping our leaders to build on devolution, we would necessitate on development agenda hence improved living standards,” said Atera.
