According to Otara, gone are the days when the community discriminated against the girl child who is either left behind to do all the house chores and received less education, she called upon all parents to ensure they give their children equal opportunities.

Addressing a public meeting at Daraja Mbili market in Kisii on Monday evening she said that the county should ensure that the widespread Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and rising cases of early marriages are properly dealt with to completely put an end to such vices.

She also called on women to fight for 30 percent leadership in various positions in both elected and nominated slots so that they can form part of decision makers in the country.

“We have the numbers as women and therefore, I would like us to ensure that we vote in our fellow women to ensure we help in empowering the girl child,” she added.

She challenged all women and youth from the remote parts of Kisii county to ensure that they register in various groups so that they can receive government funds to support and expand their businesses.
