The officer said that failure to successfully roll out devolution is hurting the country’s health sector.

“The government should fully support devolution so that nurses stop boycotting work,” Mwangi said.

“If they support it fully, we will no longer hear of these strikes or even the push for a referendum.”

Mwangi confirmed that the Kiambu County government has addressed the salary concerns of medical workers, ending a looming go-slow.

The officer, who spoke at a press briefing on Monday, said: “We are all at work as usual today. The county government held talks earlier and we are fully sorted, otherwise we would not be around,” he insisted.

Saying that the staff had no reason to boycott their job, Mwangi added that the hospital workers have been working as usual even as nurses, especially from Mombasa went on strike due to what they termed as frustrations by the county government.

This is after their county governments failed to pay them, adding on to their frustrations with the devolved health care system.
