Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has told elected leaders from Western region to support ANC leader Musala Mudavadi.
He said unless Western leaders wake up and support their own, the Luhya community will continue suffering.
'"We the Luhya community have been highly discriminated in terms of development by this regime," he said.
"We want to unite to ensure we send them home and elect a new regime that will serve Kenyans without discrimination."
Mudavadi was close to two weeks ago crowned Luhya spokesperson at an event at Bukhungu stadium in Kakamega.
He is also expected to carry the community's presidential flag.
'"We know there are others saying it was meant to be another person, not Mudavadi," he added.
"We are beyond that, we want unity for our community."
A section of elected leaders from the region especially those from Bungoma are against Mudavadi's elevation to the position.
They claim the method used in determining who is the most popular leader in the region was questionable.
They want Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula to take up the position.
