Garissa Governor Nathif Jama has begged non-Muslim communities living in the county to back his re-election bid in the August 8 general election.
Speaking when he met members of the Ameru community living in Garissa on Sunday, Jama said that his administration has championed for the rights and welfare of all non-Muslim communities in the county, and that he is counting on their support in the August general election.
The Garissa Governor also said that his administration has performed to deserve another term in office.
He observed that his government has delivered key services to the locals in the last four years, citing healthcare, infrastructure development and youth empowerment as key areas his administration has achieved results.
The governor also said that his administration has been able to unite all the communities living in the county.
“For the last four years my administration has created a business friendly environment for all communities living in Garissa,” he added
The governor pledged to initiate more development projects that will better the living standards of the people if elected in August.
“I intend to continue with the projects we have initiated come August and I am confident of being re-elected for a second term," he said as quoted by the Star.
Jama at the same time warned locals against associating with politicians who are out to create disunity.
He claimed that some politicians want to divide locals on clans and tribal grounds.
“We (locals) must reject any attempts by selfish politicians to divide us on tribal grounds,” he said.
Jama is seeking re-election on a Wiper party ticket in the August 8 general election.
He faces stiff competition from former Permanent Secretary (PS) Ali Bunow Korane who is being backed by President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party.
