Speaking on Thursday after visiting veteran footballer Joe Kadenge at his Nairobi home, Atwoli noted that retired sports legends play a pivotal role in the history of any country and therefore need to be fully supported by the government.

Atwoli described the ailing Kadenge as a "legend" who flew the nation's flag high at the international stage during his hey days as a professional footballer.

"My brother and friend Joe Kadenge will remain in the annals of history in this country as an astute football player who made Kenya proud," he said.

Ageing Kadenge, who resorted to taxi business after retiring as a footballer currently relies on support from friends and well-wishers.
