Eburi Primary school headteacher, Tom Omwange, has urged well wishers to support schools special needs children lunch programme.
This comes a few days after the school management has introduced a integrated programme for special needs children.
According to Omwange the programme will help to enhance their retention and convenient learning process.
“Calling on their parents to contribute money for their lunch is impossible based on their background,” notes Omwange.
He says that they saw the need to start special needs school in the area although it is faced with a lot of challenges.
"As a school management,we thought it wise to introduce an integrated unit to accommodate children with special needs from the local communities so that they can enjoy their right to education as their normal counterparts," added Omwange.
He encouraged parents with physically challenged to enroll them.
“It is against government policy to keep such children at home at the expense of their education,” notes Omwange.
"I am calling on the local provincial administrators and village headmen to sensitize local communities through public barazas on the importance of taking children with disability to schools,” urged Omwange.
Samson Nyakeyo Chuma teacher in charge of disabled children in the institution said that introduction of lunch time meal will help in enrollment of more children.
"Children with special needs are more demanding and any slight mistake from either the teacher, fellow learners or parents psychologically makes them feel as if they are social outcasts. As teachers we understand their needs and routinely address their needs based on their nature," said Chuma.
So far the school has 10 physically challanged children.
