An MCA has raised concerned over the few number of girls joining post-secondary institutions in Nakuru County as compared to their male counterparts.
According to Marioshoni MCA Agnes Salimu, education is a pillar in achieving women empowerment and not keeping them in school is a disaster in waiting.
"As much as everybody is talking about women empowerment, the first step towards achieving that is ensuring that our young girls attain tertiary education to help them become enlightened and be able to make informed decisions," she said.
She further called on local leaders to use the different funding channels at their disposal in supporting education rather than engaging in some irrelevant projects which she believes were avenues used for fleecing public funds.
The MCA made theremarks after attending a land handing over ceremony in Ndoswa, Molo sub-county on Monday.
Twenty five acres were bought by the Ministry of Education for the the construction of a Teachers Training College in the area.
