Deputy President William Ruto has challenged Jubilee Party leaders drawn from the Rift Valley to support President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election bid.
Speaking on Tuesday at his Karen home when he hosted a delegation from the Kalenjin Community, Ruto noted that it was only through the re-election of President Kenyatta that he can earn the support of Kenyans including that of Central Kenya when he runs for Presidency in 2022.
"We need political goodwill in 2022 after President Kenyatta finishes his second term. There is no way I will receive backing from other communities including the people of Central Kenya if we do not put all our votes in one basket," he said.
"You have a stake in the Jubilee government, and there is no other alternative party. You must rally your supporters to the last person to vote for President Kenyatta," he added.
Ruto's 2022 Presidential bid is, however, receiving a lot of opposition from Central Kenya, with Meru Governor Peter Munya maintaining that he must be on the Presidential ballot in 2022 and will not be stepping down for the Deputy President.
